With a fascination for the dialogue between texture and light, Mendelsohn sought to create a new relationship between these two elements. The result is a unique lighting design where light projects outwards, emphasizing the special pattern of the building's exterior. This approach differs from traditional outdoor lighting, offering a fresh perspective on architectural illumination.
The project's main goal was to achieve a calming effect through lighting design, enhancing the tranquility of the seaside environment. This was achieved using advanced lighting technology, which was meticulously researched and selected to meet both the design objectives and the stringent governmental regulations for lighting in natural environments.
One of the key challenges Mendelsohn faced was the selection of appropriate fixtures that adhered to environmental regulations while achieving the desired design effect. The solution was found in an LED that could resist UV exposure, the air's high salinity, and weather corrosion. Additionally, the LED's light was carefully calibrated to avoid harshness due to an increase in color temperature as a result of its encapsulation.
The Arsuf Panoramic project, completed in June 2017, is a shining example of how design and technology can come together to create a unique and harmonious living space. The project's innovative approach to lighting design has not gone unnoticed. In 2018, it was awarded the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology.
In conclusion, Rama Mendelsohn's Arsuf Panoramic is a testament to the power of innovative design and technology. It showcases how thoughtful design can enhance the natural environment, creating a calming and serene living space. This project serves as an inspiration for future design endeavors, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in lighting design.
